About
Discovery Trails offers a Reggio- Emilia inspired preschool focused on experiential, outdoor and project based learning. We believe high academic standards can be achieved through hands-on and play-based learning. Our preschool takes place in a farm school/forest school like setting on an acre and a half of land.
Our Curriculum
The Discovery Trails curriculum was created by the owner, Rebecca who used her vast experience of teaching internationally and domestically to formulate a curriculum best suited to developmental needs of preschool aged children. It uses elements of the IB PYP system, the New Zealand Te Whariki early child system, the UK and Australian EYFS, and U.S. standards.
Our units of inquiry typically run 4-6 weeks, with some sort of culminating event at the end. Units will delve into topics such as animals and our community as well as feelings and creativity. They are typically led by student interest, while still incorporating core knowledge essential to early childhood learning. Our approach is Reggio with a focus on critical thinking and open exploration. Your child will be learning the things necessary to be successful in school, while also learning important life skills and independence.
Our Philosophy
At the heart of our philosophy lies the belief that children are active participants in their own learning process. We respect each child’s innate curiosity and natural desire to learn. Our educators act as facilitators, guiding children through hands-on, experiential activities that promote critical thinking, problem-solving, and self-expression.
Learning Environment
At Discovery Trails, we understand the importance of the learning environment in shaping a child’s educational journey. Our classrooms are designed to spark imagination and curiosity. They are filled with natural light, open spaces, and materials that encourage exploration and creativity. Outdoor areas are thoughtfully designed to connect children with nature, allowing them to appreciate and learn from the world around them.
Our Educators
Our dedicated team of educators is passionate about early childhood education. They create a warm and inviting atmosphere where children feel safe and supported to express themselves freely. Our educators collaborate with parents, valuing their insights and contributions to the learning process.

Potty Training
We do not require students to be fully potty trained before joining us a preschool but we would like them to be attempting to learn! We will work with you on whatever strategies you are using at home and will make it a positive experience for your child!
Lunches
We will have lunch during school hours as this is a great time for students to learn healthy eating habits, how to socialize, self- help skills, and life skills. Unfortunately, we cannot provide lunch for your child. We ask that you bring a packed lunch with things they enjoy eating. We also ask that you pack an ice pack to keep things cool. We don’t offer microwaves to heat food. We will be making lots of yummy snacks in school though!
Clothing
We require all students to have a set of rainboots and a rainsuit available at the school. We believe there is no such thing as bad weather, just bad gear. Students are also required to have a pair of indoor shoes. If your child is still wearing diapers while potty training, please make sure to bring at least two spare diapers and wipes every day. Finally, at least one spare pair of clothes (more if potty training) because we love to get messy and explore!
