Discovery Trails Learning Academy is a homeschool co-op, preschool, and summer camp in Hendersonville, NC for families who want a balanced approach to education. We combine the flexibility and family-centered feel of homeschooling with the structure, support, and community of a small learning environment.
Our K–5 homeschool co-op offers strong academic instruction, a low student-to-teacher ratio, small class sizes, project-based learning, outdoor exploration, and meaningful enrichment. Students are known as individuals, placed at their academic level, and supported in growing as readers, writers, mathematicians, thinkers, creators, and community members.
At Discovery Trails, children don’t have to choose between academics and adventure. They can build strong foundational skills, spend meaningful time outside, ask big questions, work on real projects, and be part of a community where they feel seen, supported, and challenged.
Our Balanced Approach
Strong Academics
We take academics seriously. Students receive instruction in reading, writing, spelling, grammar, math, science, and social studies. Each child is placed at an appropriate level at the beginning of the year so they can receive support where they need it and challenge where they are ready for more.
Outdoor and Experiential Learning
Children need movement, fresh air, and hands-on experiences. Our campus gives students regular opportunities to learn outdoors through nature exploration, field studies, gardening, hiking, building, observation, and creative play.
Project-Based and Inquiry Learning
Students learn deeply when they ask questions, investigate ideas, create something meaningful, and share their learning with others. Our projects connect science, social studies, reading, writing, art, and real-world problem-solving.
A True Sense of Community
Discovery Trails is more than a drop-off program. We are a small learning community where students, families, and staff build strong relationships. Across our homeschool co-op, preschool, and summer camp, we work to create a place where children feel safe, valued, challenged, and connected.

Microschool / Homeschool Co-op
Our K–5 homeschool co-op combines individualized academics, project-based learning, outdoor education, enrichment, and a supportive multi-age community. Students receive targeted instruction in core subjects while also participating in collaborative projects that encourage curiosity, creativity, research, and problem-solving.
Preschool
Our preschool is inspired by Reggio Emilia, forest school, and inquiry-based learning. Young children learn through play, exploration, art, storytelling, nature, movement, and hands-on discovery while building the early academic, social, and independence skills they need for future success.
Summer Camp
Our summer camps give children memorable, meaningful adventures rooted in nature, creativity, science, outdoor skills, and community. Campers explore big ideas through hands-on activities, field trips, teamwork, and plenty of time outside.
