Reach your child’s full potential through hands-on learning and tailored curriculum!

At Discovery Trails, we believe that every child has the potential to achieve great things. Our hands-on learning approach and tailored curriculum are designed to help your child reach their full potential. With small class sizes, project-based learning, nature-based learning, individualized learning plans, daily enrichment classes, and Enrichment Fridays with field trips, guest speakers, and unique experiences, your child will have the opportunity to learn and grow in a nurturing and supportive environment.

Small Class Sizes

Our small class sizes ensure that each child receives the individual attention they need to succeed. Our experienced teachers are passionate about education and are dedicated to helping your child learn and grow. With a focus on project-based learning, your child will be actively engaged in their learning and will develop critical thinking, problem-solving, and collaboration skills.

Nature Based Learning

Our nature-based learning program provides children with the opportunity to learn about the natural world through hands-on experiences. Children will explore the forest, garden, and pond, and will learn about the plants, animals, and ecosystems that make up our environment.

Individualized Learning

We recognize that every child has strengths and weaknesses and develops skills at different paces. Our Individualized learning plans are developed for each child to ensure that they are challenged and supported in their learning. Our teachers work closely with parents to develop a plan that meets the individual needs of each child.

Enrichment Classes

Daily enrichment classes provide children with the opportunity to learn about a variety of topics, including art, music, drama, and physical education. These classes help children to develop their creativity, imagination, and physical skills.

Adventure Fridays

Enrichment Fridays are a special day at Discovery Trails. On Fridays, children participate in field trips, listen to guest speakers, and have unique experiences through rotating enrichment courses. These activities help children to learn about the world around them and to develop their interests.

Multi-Age Learning

Multi-age learning is an educational approach that groups students of different ages together in the same classroom. This approach is based on the belief that students learn best when they are able to interact with and learn from each other. Multi-age learning can be implemented in a variety of ways, such as by grouping students by ability level or by creating mixed-age classrooms.

There are a number of benefits to multi-age learning. First, it can help to create a more nurturing and supportive learning environment. Younger students can learn from the older students, and older students can benefit from the opportunity to mentor the younger students. Second, multi-age learning can help to promote a more individualized approach to education. Teachers can tailor their instruction to the needs of each student, and students can learn at their own pace. Third, multi-age learning can help to prepare students for the real world. In the real world, people of all ages work and interact with each other, and multi-age learning can help students to develop the skills they need to succeed in a diverse society.

What are Microschools?

Discovery Trails considers itself a Microschool. A Microschool is a small, community-based school that provides personalized learning experiences for students. Microschools are typically smaller than traditional schools, with class sizes of 10-20 students. They often operate out of non-traditional spaces, such as churches, community centers, or private homes. Microschools offer a variety of learning models, including project-based learning, inquiry-based learning, and blended learning. They also often emphasize social and emotional learning and character development

Microschools are a relatively new type of school, but they have grown in popularity in recent years. There are now Microschools in all 50 states and in many countries around the world. Microschools are popular with parents who want their children to have a more personalized and engaging learning experience. They are also popular with educators who want more freedom to be creative and innovative in their teaching.

Microschools are a promising new model of education. They offer a more personalized and engaging learning experience for students, and they can help students to develop the skills they need to be successful in the 21st century

Microschools as an Emerging Education Model

The Rise of Microschools

Let’s Get Small: Microschools, Pandemic Pods, and the Future of Education in America

Benefits of Microschools

  1. Personalized Learning: Microschools typically have a low student-to-teacher ratio, allowing for more individualized attention and support. Each student’s learning needs are carefully assessed, and teachers can tailor instruction to accommodate different learning styles and interests. This personalized approach can help students thrive academically and develop a deep understanding of the subject matter.
  2. Community Building: Microschools foster a close-knit community where students, parents, and teachers interact regularly. This sense of community creates a supportive and nurturing environment, enhancing students’ social and emotional well-being. Students learn important values such as collaboration, empathy, and respect, which are essential for their personal and professional lives.
  3. Flexible Learning Environment: Microschools offer a flexible learning environment that adapts to the needs of students and families. Classes may be held in different locations, such as homes, community centers, or outdoor spaces. This flexibility allows for a more dynamic and engaging learning experience, catering to the diverse interests and abilities of students.
  4. Real-World Learning: Microschools often emphasize hands-on and project-based learning, which helps students apply their knowledge to real-world scenarios. They may engage in community service projects, conduct scientific experiments, or work on entrepreneurial ventures. This experiential learning approach prepares students for the challenges and opportunities they will encounter beyond the classroom.
  5. Parent Involvement: Microschools actively involve parents in their children’s education. Parents are encouraged to participate in decision-making processes, offer input on the curriculum, and support their children’s learning at home. This collaboration between parents and teachers creates a strong foundation for student success.

How our Microschool works

Our Microschool operates as a homeschool co-op, providing flexibility for families to tailor their educational journey according to their needs while fostering a strong sense of community. Families can select their schedule based on their individual preferences, balancing homeschooling with extracurricular activities, family commitments, and other personal factors.

To ensure an active, supportive community, each family is required to volunteer twice during the school year. This volunteer requirement helps strengthen the bonds between families and enhances the collaborative, hands-on learning environment.

We all participate in a mutual co-op agreement, which outlines the responsibilities and expectations of all members, including families, students, and the educational staff. This agreement fosters a shared commitment to the values of the school and the well-being of all students.

While students are required to be registered as homeschoolers with their respective local school districts, Discovery Trails takes on the responsibility for administering the necessary testing and assessments to ensure academic progress. We will also maintain accurate attendance records, offering families peace of mind and a structured approach to meeting educational and legal requirements.

This model offers families the best of both worlds: the flexibility and customization of homeschooling, combined with the structure, resources, and support of a community-focused co-op. It provides children with diverse learning experiences, socialization opportunities, and a well-rounded education.
